Train from prague to Poznan

Any ideas on how to go by train from Prague to Poznan, Poland and then to Berlin? Where do we get tickets, the cost?

Hi, Getting from Prague to Poznan (Posen) is going to be a long haul. You can do this by going through Poland, ie., Prague to Katowice (Kattowitz) to Poznan. I don't recommend that, too long, too slow, bad arrival times. The other and better way is to go through Germany: Prague to Berlin Hbf. a bit over 4hrs, change to Poznan...much more direct and quicker. After Poznan take the return route Poznan-Berlin. The Berlin-Poznan-Berlin route is a special EC train set up for that route, where it's mandatory to reserve, even the day train. I've taken the Berlin-Poznan EC route, on the way to Torun (Thorn), and another time to Warsaw, seems to take forever. As for cost Prague-Poznan ca. 102 Euro, Poznan-Berlin 37.30 Euro.

Hi, If you should decide to do this route by rental car, I would not recommend that because of the very good possibility of theft. Better to stick to the train, slow as it may seem. You'll see that the second leg after Prague-Berlin is traveling through that flat land of East Brandenburg and the former province of Posen. Poznan is also the junction point for going further east, (if you want to go on) ie,. Warsaw, to the northeast to Torun all the way to the terminus at Olsztyn (Allenstein) in former East Prussia.
