train from Bled to Venice

The trip appears challenging. You have to change from train to bus in Villach and have all of 5 minutes to do it. Does anyone know if the bus is included in Eurorail and if the bus waits for the train to arrive? Also another web site recommends crossing the border at Nova Gorica. Has anyone had experience with doing this??

Hi Colleen! Hmmm...5 minutes? you'd better have your running shoes on! :) The route through Nova Gorica is easy. Your only issue might be if you have a lot of luggage to carry around. If you're staying in Bled Centre then you need to catch the train on the far side of the lake at Bled Jezero. You need to get a taxi there or maybe your hotel can give you a lift (a lot of them do). The train through the mountains and along the amazing Soca River is very scenic. In Nova Gorica, you need to hail another taxi a few kms to the Gorizia station on the other side of the border. Once there, take a train to Venice and thats it. Let us know if you need more info

Colleen, My wife and I (both 60 ) took the train/bus from Bled to Venice in Nov. 2011. The ticket included the bus. We bought our ticket a couple of days before in Ljublana(sp). The bus is parked right outside the entrance to the train station. You can't miss it. 5 minutes is plenty and the bus waits for the train. The conductor on the train told us without us even asking. I thought the bus was a very relaxing, scenic ride.
