We are going to spend 2 weeks in the Czech Republic in October and want to do a side trip to Auschwitz. We will have a car. I was wondering about tour guides for Auschwitz... we want to make the most of our visit there ...any sugestions...or are the tours handled just by the facility itself?

Ed, here's a quote from the Auschwitz website:
"Because of the large numbers of visitors to the Auschwitz Memorial, entry to the Auschwitz I site will be exclusively on a guided, group basis from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during the period from August 3 to September 30, 2009.
If you are visiting on your own they will group you with a tour.
