to get turkish lira here or wait to exchange currency in Turkey?

We are going to Turkey in November. Should we exchange currency at a bank here or wait to exchange us dollars when we are in Turkey?

Get it from the ATM's at the airport. Remember to have $20 each for your entry Visas. BTW if you were expecting a decrepit airport you are in for a surprise. Atatürk International Airport is very modern and sleek. One of the best airports I've ever flown to and from in all of Europe. Before some geography major starts complaining, Turkey is in Europe and Asia and more importantly has nothing to do with what we yanks call the Middle East.
Extremely interesting country. Enjoy your stay.

We were there in Sept 2011 and got liras at an ATM in the airport. On your way to the luggage pickup (which you must walk by to leave) there there at least two ATMs. You shouldn't have a problem waiting till you get there.

If you are using an ATM card, it is quite easy to get TL at the airport upon arrival. They are usually located outside of the baggage claim area. I have never had a
problem using this method.

My wife and I will be stopping in Istanbul for 3 nights this September. I am reading the posts and noticed that we will need cash for entry. Will be need to pay in Turkish Lira or will they accept Euros or dollars. Also, when withdrawing currency for an ATM for our stay I'm not sure how much we will need. I noticed a recommended restaurant, SET Balik, only takes cash. Is this common or is credit card use widely accepted. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Fifteen euro or twenty dollars - - cash. No help on cc, I use cash for all except cars and major hotels.

Bring your ATM card and get cash as needed. You'll need US Dollars or Euros for your entry stamp, Lira not accepted.
