I'll be staying in Krakow and would like to know how much it will cost to get to Krakow and tour the place, and back to Krakow ? THanks!

Hi Sonny

I'll be making this trip in a few weeks too, I've checked out Rick's Eastern European book, it has a ton of details (and a self-guided tour). Also the Auschwitz website has info as well: http://en.auschwitz.org.pl/m/

I'm planning on asking at our hotel about it after I get my bearings in Krakow. From what I've researched its pretty straightforward to get there.

When are you going?

"From what I've researched its pretty straightforward to get there." Your research is correct. I don't remember the actual bus fare, but it was minimal.

Thanks all! My RS EEurope book should come in the mail this week! :-) I actually saw a Krakow tourist site that had the bus schedules. (I should look before I ask.) I'm travelling in mid-Oct.

I'll be going mid-September, so hopefully I'll be able to give you a bit more info if you still have questions at that point!

The problem with taking the train is that the schedules aren't convenient for most people. It mostly caters to commuters, so there are lots trains in the morning, and lots of trains in the evening, but almost nothing in the afternoon.

Sorry, Sonny! I will be taking the train in from Vienna and flying out to Berlin. No Prague or Budapest for me!

I did, in fact get a good deal with Air Berlin! Slightly concerned about taking the night train, but its all part of the adventure, right??

Berlin has such a dramatic history. You'll love it. I can't help but think of the poor Eastern Berliners, and Europe for that matter. After Hitler, the communists destroyed a lifetime for millions of these people. Yes, it's part of the adventure! I was googling around last night and saw this website. I hope it helps calm your fears...I'm thinking of getting a 2 bed sleeper. http://www.passportchop.com/europe/hungary/night-sleeper-train-to-budapest-from-krakow/

I think we will be looking at a 2 bed sleeper also. Seems like a better way to get some actual sleep! Not sure how long we are actually going to stay in Berlin. It might turn out to be just our destination from Krakow on our way to Hamburg. Still not sure yet, we have friends who might be in Hamburg.

Sonny, I have a question for you. What were the baggage allowances for flying Air Berlin Krakow to Berlin? How far in advance do you suggest arriving at the air port?

MD, I took Air Berlin from Vienna to Berlin. I had carry-on luggage only (and a backpack)and did not check it in. I remember going up the ramp stairs after we were bussed into the tarmac. Again, this was Vienna, not Krakow. I try to arrive 2 hours before flight.
