Things to do in Prague

I will be going to Prague with my 3 childremn(11, 9 and 7) and my elderly mother this coming weekend. I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas on private tours we could take, museums to see or other things to do with such a diverse group.

There aren't too many museums in Prague of note, much less ones that would appeal to a 7 and 9 year old. Take them to the castle. Although it doesn't look much like a child's mental image of a castle, there's enough nooks and crannies to poke around in for hours, as the whole complex is fairly large.

If you wanted to introduce the kids to the joys of live classical music (and if you think they can sit still), Prague offers an a wide array of very cheap concerts. There's nothing much here for a classical music veteran (unless you just can't get enough of Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik", Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" and Smetana's "Moldau"), but perfect for beginners.

And one final warning. Prague seems to have more cheap souvenir stores per capita than any other location not under the direct control of the Disney Company. Be prepared for a lot of "Mom, can we buy this?"

I still remember that when we were kids we really liked National Technical museum: trains, trams, cars, planes etc. Also I think kids could like to take funicular to Petrin tower, visit mirror maze which is right there, go up the tower for views, they have an elevator for handicapped or old, take Vltava river cruise, maybe also Zizkov TV tower for views. You can ask at the visitor center if something is going on that could be interesting for kids.
