Things to do around Lake Bled after the RS Eastern Europe tour

In 2014 my husband and I are taking the RS Eastern Europe tour ending in Lake Bled in early June. We can get a flight home out of Ljubljana but wonder if there is enough to do in the Lake Bled/Ljubljana area to merit staying a few extra days. We like to hike but also enjoy seeing new things. Any suggestions?

there is a pretty big cave close to LJU you can easily visit by bus. google Postojna Jama for more info. piran is also worth going for over night from LJU. Bled area is very good for outdoor activity. most cities are very small so city site seeing is not as much compare to other places on your tour.

We had a few days in this area this fall. We liked the small village of Radovijica and the beekeeping museum and if we return, we'd like to do some hiking in that area. Rick's Croatia & Slovenia Guide lists suggestions including a self-guided driving tour of the Julian Alps. Personally, I could always spend another day or two in Ljubljana!

Hi!

There is plenty to do in Slovenia and around Bled. Hiking around Bled/Lake Bohinj and Kranjska Gora is amazing with mountain pastures, rivers, forests and gorges. Take Mount Vogel and Mostnica and Vintgar Gorges for instance.

Ljubljana is a beautiful and charming city and you should spend a good day there walking the streets and have a meal in the old town, very romantic.

In between there are towns like Radovljica and Skofja Loka as well. From Bled you can also take day tours to the Soca Valley for example. You will love it.

Cheers
Greg

I took this tour in 2012 and decided to take the train to Salzburg and then Munich to fly home. Based on my research, I figured I would need a car to do the area justice and wasn't interested in driving. You can easily catch the train at Lesce Bled station and get to many other places too (Vienna was popular on my trip). There are some earlier posts on this topic, do a quick scan of those for ideas.
