The new train from Budapest's Airport Terminal 1.

The guidebook only says it's a handy and new link to the Nyugati Station.

It gives a price range from 300-700 FT, depending on train.

Well, with a train coming every half hour, I don't think I can afford to be picky. It's all a bit confusing.

Has anyone taken this train yet?

How much was it exactly, cost and time?

Can I buy a 3-day Transit Pass at this Terminal and use it for this segment?

Should I just buck up and take a taxi straight to my hotel?

Train service started a week after I was in Budapest last year so I haven't taken it, but it looks like a great option. Metro and bus was cheap, but a pain. Budapest airport website (www.bud.hu/english) says cost of train is 300 HUF and also provides a link to the schedule. It's run by the national rail service, so it may not be covered by the 3-day pass which is sold by the Budapest transit service (www.bkv.hu/english). Worth asking when you buy your ticket though. Transfer to the metro or a tram is easy when you get to Nyugati pu. train station. One or the other should get you close to your hotel. If you can't get a pass at the airport, buy it at the Nyugati pu. metro station.

Bill, it sounds like you're concerned about the cost. 300 forint is about $1.87. A taxi ride last year to the airport cost us closer to $40.

I'm not on a strict budget, but I hate spending that much on a cab when I could just as easily sightsee and be a "Temporary Local" while I make my way to my lodgings.

Also, our hotel is closer to the Keleti train station (which is closer to the airport) as that is the station we leave from to continue on our trip.

Thanks for the info so far.
Maybe I'll be the first one on these threads to end up taking this new train and I'll tell you all about it when I get back.
