Many on the site have questioned whether a money belt is better than a neck wallet. Having taken many tour groups throughout Italy I can say POSITIVELY that a neck wallet is better. Lee from Global is spot on this subject.
Others have said to me that I must be confused when I say that the pickpockets and thieves especially in Napoli can spot a money belt immediately! Several have "ADVISED" me that a money belt is worn under your clothes - YEP - It is - And I completely stand by what I said months ago. A thief can sit by the docks and in a minute discern who's coming off a ship wearing a money belt - Because the person isn't really used to it, he or she is continually feeling for it, thus tipping it off. The thieves work in pairs, come up behind you, rip your shirt or blouse, use a serated knife, cut the belt off , and they are gone!! They also work with many local waiters who tip them off to customers wearing belts and they attack after you leave a Cafe.
The Neck Wallet is the safest , best way to go - End Of Story.
