Tallinn Sightseeing Tours?

I will be in Tallinn for 2 days (one night) in late May 2012. I'm a single traveler, 56 yo, in good health, not afraid to be on my feet walking all day long. Is it worthwhile to spend part of my time doing an organized tour, or would I be just as well doing my own research and exploring on my own? Does anyone have experience with any walking tours or hop-on-hop-off bus tours in Tallinn? If you'd recommend (or advise against) one of the following or any others, I'd love to hear. http://www.traveller.ee/tour/old-town-walking-tour-tallinn http://travel2baltics.com/default.asp/ac/teenused/id/136/lan/en Thanks in advance!

I haven't done a tour of Tallinn, but don't really see the need for one. The old town is very compact, so a bus tour, even if it exists, would be rather unnecessary unless walking is an issue. The one exception might be getting out to the park with Catherine's Palace and Peter the Great's Cottage. It's accessible by tram, but a tour might make things easier.

i was in Tallin for a few days a couple years ago, and really enjoyed it. The old town is very compact and all easily walkable, I don't see a need for an organized tour. Although hiring a local guide might be worthwhile, I was on a Rick Steves tour and we had a half-day walk around Tallin with a local guide and it was interesting getting a local perspective. But except for that half-day walking tour, I got around just with the RickSteves books/info and my own research. I walked all around old-Town; rode the tram to Kadriorg Park although it is also within walking distance; and walked to the western edge of old town to the main bus/train station and took a city bus out to Rocca al Mare to visit the Estonian Open Air Museum. Tallin old town is pretty small and compact, so I guess it depends on how much you enjoy doing your own research, and the price of the organized tours. I think its a city that you could easily research and do on your own, but it is also good to get the local perspective. I'd suggested adding another day/night (or two) if possible. Its not a huge city and doesn't take a lot of time, but trying to see it all in two days might be rushed.
