Taking the train in Poland

I'd like to know if anyone has any tips for train travel in Poland. #1 - Is there a web site that will allow me to book ahead? #2 - Is there a train that goes to the Krakow (KRK) airport?
Thank you,
Gina

There is a shuttle train that travels from the airport to the Krakow Glowny station (www.krakow-info.com/airport.htm). Poland has an fairly extensive rail network; you can check schedules at this site:

Buying tickets at the station can be a bit of a problem because of the language barrier. To overcome this buy rail tickets from a travel agent\tour company in Poland. There will be a small surcharge but it will make life easier.

I had no difficulty buying rail tickets at the station in Warsaw and Krakow. I had to exchange trains in Katowice (where nobody speaks English!), but I had no trouble at the ticket windows in the major cities.

Hey Tom I had the same problem. I mentioned to another poster on here that Kracow has the new Galleria mall connected to the train station and I found there are a good amount of Polish college students that speak english there.

I used rail europe for the tickets.

Oh, and one extra note. Some of the longer distance Polish trains have no cafe. For example, the traveling time from the Lithuanian border to Warsaw lasts at least six hours, if not greater. I've rarely felt famished after a train ride, but this was one exception. I did not encounter the same situation between Warsaw and Krakow, and between Krakow and Prague.
