I'm going to be visiting Athens in a couple of weeks and heard about "The Tactile Museum" in Athens, but can't seem to find any informatioon or homepage. Does this museum still exist?
Noreen....see http://www.tactualmuseum.gr/html/muse.htm. You may want to double check on opening hours when you get there, since it's largely run by volunteers.
Thanks for the web site!
I wanted to follow up on my trip to Athens last month. I visited the National Archeological Museum (which was very nice), but heard from every gallery "no touch, no flash pictures!" and especially "no pictures of people standing in front of the artwork!"...
Afterward, I took a taxi to the Tactual Museum (17 Athinas Street, Kallithea 176 73 Athens)- about (5 Euros) a 10 minute taxi ride from the National Museum.
The Tactual Museum is located in a residential area (about a 10 minute walk from the planetarium). It was outstanding!! An amazing woman took my friend and I on a personal tour (replicas of the same artwork from the National Museum) and I learned much more than I did at the National Museum. I was encouraged to touch everything!
Although the Tactual Museum is operated by the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece, it is absolutely worthwhile for both sighted and blind visitors.
I highly, highly recommend visiting the Tactual Museum when you travel to Athens. You won't regret it.
