Symi day trip or more time on Rhodes?

Hello fellow travelers, We are staying in Rhodes Town for 4 nights/days. We plan to rent a car for 2 days to explore the island. We plan to explore the town itself in the early evenings and on our last day. My question: is a Symi day trip highly recommended for us to do with our other day? Or would it make more sense to just give Rhodes itself more time?

2 days for rhodes is good enough i think. 1 day check out the old town, then 2nd day you check out lindos, then you should look into day trips, including symi or even turkey.

I found myself in the same situation last May. My friends and I decided to stay on Rhodes and took a bus to the beach near Kalithea. I haven't regretted that decision; either way you would probably have a good time. If you are in the old town at mealtime and are interested in a non-Greek meal, check out Mandala for delicious food. It's at Sofekleos 38. Also, I inquired about a trip to Turkey from Rhodes and was told that there is not much going on (besides the beaches) at Marmaris. If I were you I would probably pick a Greek day trip before spending time and money to go to Marmaris. Hope that helps!

I've been researching this myself for a trip in early September, and have found a couple of recommendations for a day trip to the nearby island of Halki (aka Chalki), rather than Symi. Symi looks gorgeous but is evidently very overrun by tourists. So I guess your decision depends on whether you'd rather spend more time exploring Rhodes, and maybe chilling on a beach, or if you'd enjoy a day on a ferry and seeing a totally new place. We're going to wait til we get there and see how we feel.

Thank you. This was helpful. I am looking into Tilos too as a day trip option.
