Hi; Thanks for all your help. In your last post to me, you suggested hiking in Stozek. The only Stozek I found was on the Poland border. Is the Stozek you're referring to, the same as Strazny? (relatively close to Kvilda). Also, do you have recs of places to spend the night in these 3 towns. Also are there regular buses from Zelezna Ruda to Plzen? Thanks again for your help.
Ellen
Ellen, I wrote Stozec (pronounced Stozhets), not Stozek. That's why you couldn't find it. I stayed there in Pension Stozecka Kaple mainly because it was close to the train station. In the Visitor Center they can advise you how to create one way hikes using train and tourist buses. There are of course many other places to stay, I chose Stozec because it was easy to get to from Cesky Krumlov. I don't have recommendation where to spend night in Kvilda or Zelezna Ruda. Kvilda has many pensions and Zelezna Ruda has also hotels. There are buses and trains from Zelezna Ruda to Plzen. On your way through the Czech Republic you may encounter some language barrier outside main tourist centers. Look for young people. They all know at least some English because it's taught at school as a mandatory language. Speak slowly and correctly and you will succeed.
