Hello We are thinking of traveling by train from Budapest through Kocise, Slovakia to Strbske Pleso to stay at the Hotel Kempinski. Has anyone stayed there? The hotel provides transportation to Krakow which is our next stop. It seemed like a good idea to travel through Slovakia. Any comments on train or hotel would be appreciated.

Hi, Kempinski...a very, very nice German chain.
Strbske Pleso is a very beautiful high mountains resort with gorgeous views. It is also name of the lake there. Hotel Kempinski is a reconstructed former Grand hotel now probably the most expensive in the whole High Tatras. It's very easy to get there from Kosice. It takes 1 hour 54 minutes with one change of train in Strba. Some expresses don't stop in Strba. In that case you would have to change trains in Poprad. Time schedule is on Deutsche Bahn website. A lot of hiking trails from Strbske Pleso from easy to very strenuous. High mountain trails are opened from June 30th to October 31st. It is possible to get to Krakow also by public transport (bus).
