Story about Turkish consulate & visas

So, my partner (a British citizen) and I (American) are going to Turkey. We heard we needed visas, and after reading online that the Turkish Consulate in NYC issues visas between 9 and 11 pm we went. And they told us between 9 and 11 they issue visas for TURKISH PEOPLE and everybody else was 2:30 to 4:30. So, we go home, wait a couple hours, and return. We're thinking we're smart. We want to get our paperwork finished in advance. We take a number, we're called, and the girl at the window says if you get the visa when you enter Turkey it's $20. And if you get it in advance it's fifty-something for me and eighty-something for my partner. So, it'd be stupid to get one! Don't even think about preparing in advance! Hope this information will save somebody a massive waste of time.

Hi Roman, Getting your Visa once you arrive is very easy. It's a separate line from the Customs Line - make sure to get your Visa first. Then, go through Customs. You'll need $20 US in cash. Sorry you spent so much time trying to obtain a Visa before you left for Turkey! Hope you have a great trip!

I went to Turkey in May of this year and it was easy to get the Visa at the airport. Just be sure to get in the visa line first before changing to the other line. It indeed cost us $20 US for US citizens. It may be a different charge for your British citizen partner but I am not sure - better check on that i advance and to see what currency they will need to pay in.
