Stops between Prague and Krakow

Hi,
I'm hoping to travel from Prague to Krakow via another city as a day trip (possibly could become an overnight). What would be some good sights which fall pretty conveniently between the two cities? Keep in mind that I'll be traveling by train and it will be winter. I've read some about Olomouc, which is a possibility, and then I just saw a mention about Hradec Králové and Litomyšl, but I've had trouble finding more info about these 2 places. Any personal reports as to whether they'd be worth it, or if there's another place I should consider? My main interests are probably history/ethnography and art/architecture, as well as just experiencing daily life, and I'd like to see something in contrast to Prague. Thanks!

I would go for Olomouc. Logistically the easiest. It's on your route and express Prague-Krakow stops there. It's harder to get to Hradec Kralove and even harder to Litomysl. You can see more in Olomouc and it's also in Rick Steves book Prague and the Czech Republic. The richest etnographic region in the Czech Republic is IMHO Slovacko. About 1 hour by train from Olomouc.
