Stay in Budapest

Hi, I am traveling to Budapest and want to know which side should i stay in? I like to stay close to places to visit, and i like to stay in areas where food is easily available even late in the evening. I like action and like to still hustle bustle of people. would you recommend Buda or Pest side to stay in for 3-4 days?

Without a doubt, Pest. I personally like the Kalvin ter area because it is very close to restaurants and pubs that are open late. Last time I was in the city, I stayed at Residence Baron Hotel. Price includes breakfast and a desktop computer in the room with free Internet.

You might be happier in Prague? Not much hustle and bustle of people in Budapest. Kalvin ter is a little removed from the cultural events in Budapest but it is closer to some of the younger "events" so that might work for you. Still, look into Prague.

I'm not sure what James is talking about. There's plenty of people hustling and bustling in Budapest and in Prague, and there's plenty of quiet corners in both too. I know James has strong negative feelings about Prague and positive ones about Budapest, but they're both big cities (although coming from Mumbai, they will both seem small and quiet to you).

I think Prague is wonderful. If anyone has the opportunity to go and they pass it up for no good reason they are making a big mistake. If someone single and under 30 only had time for Prague or Vienna or Budapest I would suggest Prague first. If someone is looking for a more festive night life I suggest Prague first. I saw "hustle and bustle" and "food available even late in the evening" and just thought of the good times I had in Prague. Pur, stay in Pest. I would try and stay someplace between Vaci utca and the Danube embankment and between the Elizabeth Bridge and the Chain Bridge. Chances are more tourists in that zone and more places open late to meet their holiday demands.

I stayed at Rick's recommended Art'otel in Budapest and loved it. Right on the river. It is on the Buda side, but very close to the metro stop and with fabulous views of Parliament and the rest of Pest. And one of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had!
