What is the best ( as in a somewhat timely manner) way to get from Split to Milan? Would rather do train travel than a flight. Split to Zagreb, to Ljubljana, to Venice, and then to Milan? We want to spend some time in Padua, thus the Venice stop. Any thoughts?
I'm not sure what you would consider timely, but this would be a journey of several days by train. Check Rail Europe to get an idea of train schedules; there may be other sources as well that I'm not aware of. Another, faster alternative would be an overnight ferry from Split to Ancona, Italy. From Ancona, you could take a train to Padua and later to Milan.
