Split, Croatia to Sicily, IT

I want to somehow split my time between Sicily, IT and Split,Croatia in mid-August. We will only have approx 8 days. And are traveling with a 2yrs old. I know there are cruise options but would like to explore and stay more than a day or two in each. Any advise?

It would be hard to do it all in 8 days. Might be better off taking an overnight ferry to Naples and seeing Pompeii, Sorrento, and the the Amalfi Coast. Saving Croatia for another trip.
