slovenia/croatia in oct only have 8 days!

hi after watching Ricks show on this area my husband was wowed at this part of europe, I work for a airline i get discounts on flights & was planning on Lake Bled,Istria for sure already booked hotels We really want to fit in Dubrovnik, connecting from usa to there i dont see a problem however leaving dubrovnik to ANYWHERE,let alone Slovenia seems to be a near impossibility,we would be there on the weekend of a national holiday independence day,to take the 4 hr bus to split and then 5hr train to zagreb, doesnt seem logical. Is Dubrovnik really worth the hassle of getting there and back, i only have 2 nights to spend there, Thanks!!!

Why don't you rent a car? Simplifies matters greatly. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT miss Plitvice Lakes. The highlight of our June trip thru Croatia. Ljubljana was also very nice.

We will arrive in Vienna on Oct 5 and plan to drive to Llubljana. We will have 9 days to drive to Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik and then back to Vienna on Oct 15. Have been reading that there are many places we should not miss, like Lake Bled and Plitvice Lakes. Hope we can get it all in. Kind of wish we had signed up for a tour, but they all seem to end in Dubrovnik and then its tough to get back to Vienna.

thanks for all your responses, I did book 2 nights in Dubrovnik, actually found a flight from there to Venice, where we will probably rent a car to explore Slovenia & Istria in Croatia. our place in Dubrovnik is in old city so we wont need a car there!
