I only know Slovenia (at this point - going to Croatia this summer): Stay in Bled at least one night. I've stayed in both Bled and Ljubljana - much prefer Bled. If you are doing a day trip, go early and spend the whole day. Try to get a ride with Robert Wilfan on one of the pletnas - he's an excellent guide (I use him for my groups every year) and speaks perfect English (he lived in the states for a couple years). You can contact him through his website http://www.pletna.net/en/contact.html
Tell him Craig Bresett recommended him! Skocjan Caves is a great experience - I've been 4 times. Reserve a time ahead to ensure you have an English guide (you have to go through the caves with a guide). I haven't been to Postojna, but hear it is much more touristy and not as remarkable.

Hi there Sandi! Bled is magical and you could easily do 2 nights here as you explore the lake, Vintgar Gorge and nearby Bohinj! Ljubljana is of course because it is a capital city but a charming little one at that! One day is needed to see all the sights. 3 nights is probably too much and you could do 2 more side trips like the Caves, Lipica or somewhere like Logarska Dolina would be awesome! You dont need to contact a pletna in advance, there are loads of them around the lake and they leave once their boats are full. Postojna Caves is the number one attraction for a reason, because they are remarkable. Touristy yes, but I think if you are in Slovenia on holiday, then i guess that makes you a tourist! Skocjan are also amazing so its a hard choice! Cheers
