Slovenia & Croatia

Greetings, Planning trip in Sept. Through 1st week of Oct. And have a couple of questions? 1. when driving within Istria is parking difficult in Rovinj or Pula? If so, would it be better to stay in one of the interior towns & make day trips to the coast? 2. Is 2.5 days at Lake Bled too much? Arrive noon 1st day from LJU with plans for trip around the lake. 2nd day for drive thru Julian Alps. 3. Thinking of staying 5 nights in Dubrovnik. 1st day; arrival, then 2 days in city, one day to Kotor and one day to Mljet Park. These days would be the last week of Sept. 4. Better to stay 2 nights in Split or Trogir or stay these nights in Hvar or Korcula. We will be heading north to Plitvice from here. Thanks for your comments. Dave

2.5 days in lake bled is not too much if you want to do some adventure sports. but if you just want to walk the lake and maybe paddle it a little bit, then it's just a little long. you can walk around it in a couple of hours.

We travelled around Istria in May last year. We stayed in Rovinj. Our hotel in Rovinj had parking, so we just left our car there and walked into the old city. It was a bit of a walk from where our hotel was located, but you can probably find closer ones if you prefer. The receptionist at the hotel did say that if we left early in the morning, parking would be available in the downtown area. We had no problems parking in Pula, arriving in the late afternoon. We took a one day drive to see the interior towns of Istria, and Pula was our last stop. We stayed for a few days in Bled, but like David said, it depends what you are into. The Vintgar Gorge is worth a visit- you can walk or drive. We also went to Radovlica one day, and visited their bee-keeping museum, which was very interesting. (We biked, but you can drive there as well). Bled is also a nice place to just sit on a bench and relax- plenty of people-watching and it is very picturesque!
