Have you been to Czestochowa, south of Warsaw. Considered a Catholic pilgrimage site. John Paul II went there several times, and Pope Benedict has been there as least once. The big attraction is the small painting of the Black Madonna. If you "google" the name, you will find that about 400 of these paintings exist. Although no one knows where this one originated, they once claimed that it was painted by St. Luke, parton of artists. My BA is in Art History, and I can tell you that stylistical, that is impossilbe. No one knows why the Madonna is black. Nevertheless, the site draws countless tourists. The whole site is spotless and worth a visit. The painting is attached to cables so it can be raised upstairs were some monks pray to the Virgin all night. I am Catholic, but this one is too much for me.
