I end Rick's Turkey tour on Saturday May 28. On paper this almost makes sense and seems to work, but is it realistic? Kusadasi to Samos via 8:30 ferry. Samos to Athens via 16:25 Olympic air ARIVAL 17:20 So the question is can I reasonably make it to Hydra that night? I am getting contradictory information on when the last Hydra Ferry leaves Pireaus? The bonus question is – Am I short changing Samos and is it worth it to spend the day and just leave Sunday morning? >May 28 – Kusadasi >Samos>Athens>Hydra >May 28-30 Hydra >May 31 –Somewhere not Hydra or Athens (but close enough to get to Athens in the morning of the 1st) >Jun 1-3 Athens (Fly out Athens Fri June 3 Morn) I am also open to other suggestions on this quick trip to Greece

http://tinyurl.com/65l6y6d the last ferry to Hydra on May 28 leaves Piraeus at 18:30. You definitely don't have enough time to make that one. If there's flight from Samos that gets you to ATH by 14:30 at the latest, spend the nignt on Samos. Check Aegean Airlines too.

I'm not sure why you chose Hydra and/or if it is a "must see" for you but if you have never visited Santorini, it might make a good alternative to Hydra. Right now, there's an 18:20 Aegean Air flight available from Athens to Santorini on the 28th. You could spend 4 nights on Santorini, then ferry or fly back to Athens on the 1st. Or you could add a night to your Athens stay, returning to Athens on the 31st, and taking a day trip to Hydra during your time in Athens. Or you could spend 2 nights on Santorini, then ferry to Paros or Naxos for 2 nights, then back to Athens. You have lots of choices!

Thanks Charlene. Santorini was my original plan. But, I was watching Ricks show on Hydra and listening to his podcasts on it - it sounded really nice - and no scooters. It is odd when I picture a Greek Island, it is Santorini that blue dome and white buildings - but I think this imagery of mine has made it almost Disney like in my mind - and a funny part of me feels that it might even be too romantic for a guy traveling by himself. - Yes silly. My original plan with Hydra was to do a couple days there and another on the Peloponnese, but getting held up in Samos a day makes that a problem. Thanks for your advice.

David, david, david You CAN have your cake and eat it too! An island that is white & blue, the calendar cliche ... and not shortchange Samos either. May 28 Arrive Vathi town mid-day, explore town a bit (its cute museum has the BIGGEST kouros statue in the WORLD, they had to raise the ceiling to get it in!), and check into a cute hotel on the water; I like Hotel Pythagoras ... the restaurant next door has tables a foot above the water, where u can see THE most spectacular sunset .. May 29 In the morning, walk up the hill to Ano (high) Vathy feels/looks like Italian lake,terracota roofs, twisty cypresses... Vathy bay teal blue, looks like Lago di Como ...
at 1330 (130pm) take Nissos Mykonos large ferry, bask on deck at 1530 (3:30) arrive MYKONOS the Blue & White isle that you long to see! Where to stay? Check Carbonaki Hotel, Angela's Rooms, both in town, quiet affordable. May 29-30-31 MYKONOS! Sun at Beach, do 1/2 day tour to Delos, take pix galore of blue/white houses! Mykonos in May is peppy but not wild .. the "isle experience" you pictured. On May 31, fly to ATH Olympic Air @ 6pm arr 640pm or Aegean 745-arr 8:20. Get a good nite's sleep, rise peppy for 2 days of Sightseeing! Problem solved!!
