Selcuk, Turkey: Accomdations and length of stay

Can anyone suggest places to stay in Selcuk? We will be there for three nights in early October mostly to visit Ephesus. We are also spending three nights in Cappadocia. Any thoughts about dividing up the time differently? Less time around Ephesus and more in
Cappadocia? Thanks for your advice.

Hi Christine,

We stayed 2 nights in Selcuk and 4 in Cappadocia. That worked great for us! You can spend a day at Ephesus and then another day in and around Selcuk--that's enough in my opinion. We really like Hotel Bella in Selcuk--they take care of everything! It was a very nice place to stay.

Hi,
We had a great stay at Hotel Kalehan in Selcuk a few years ago. It was run by a brother/sister team and is a beautiful old historic farm grounds turned into a hotel. Had a wonderful stay.

Hi, don't have a hotel recommendation, but a great donner if you're interested. It was a local's place run by a guy in his early 20s and two kids around 14 that actually made the donners and served the customers. It is a very small storefront, no inside seating, eat at small tables on the sidewak experience. At the corner of 1006 sk and Siegburg Cd.

In May of 2009 we (my husband & myself) stayed at the Hotel Bella, along with
my brother-in-law and his wife. (www.hotelbella.com). I can't say enough
about this hotel; the staff was helpful and bent over backward to make our stay
as pleasant as possible. They went out of their way to facilitate our needs, and the place was spotlessly clean.

They have a wonderful breakfast in the morning, and their dinners (extra charge, but an incredible deal) were absolutely delicious. We stayed there 3 nights, and made the mistake of eating at a restaurant for dinner one of those nights. We all agreed that the food at the Bella was so superior to what we had at the restaurant.

The owners arranged a tour guide for Ephesus, which the 4 of us split with yet another couple from the hotel - plus they dropped us off and picked us up later!

We didn't make it to Cappadocia, so I can't comment on that. One thing I would
encourage you to do is get off the 'beaten path', as there are incredible Lycian ruins where we had the places to ourselves (as opposed to Ephesus where it was a zoo).

Our trip to Turkey is the highlight of our international travels, and I can't say enough good things about it! ENJOY.

When I did the Istanbul in 7 days last September, I took a weekend trip to Selcuk and stayed at Hotel Nilya - a wonderful bed and breakfast type hotel. While there I visited the Meryemana and, of course, Ephesus - I met a taxi driver whose card I still have! His name was Bekir Celikparmak at 0 535 777 13 23 - a very nice man, native of Selcuk who loves his town and his family and drove me everywhere! The market in Selcuk is the largest outdoor market I've ever seen (every Saturday). A wonderful town - wish I'd spent more time there.

We stayed last year in Selcuk at a great place, easy to walk to from the bus or train. It was called the Urkmez Hostel or hotel, and was run by 2 very helpful young men. The breakfast buffet was served on the upstairs terrace with great views. I think the price of the room for 2 twin beds, private balcony and bath, breakfast included was about 36 dollars a night for 2 people. Very clean, a gem. I wish I was going, I would love to stay there again. Happy travels. Regina White

Hi,
I am living in Turkey izmir (near Selcuk)
There is a old natural village called as Sirince near by Selcuk
It is 20 min far a way and top of the mountain in the green area and most of the houses are made of stone. You may have a chance to live a real village life, breakfast and eat natural foods.. there are lot of small butique motels (3-4 room max) active in local houses... please check on internet before to decide :)..

I would also go with less time in Selcuk and more in Cappadocia. Selcuk is fairly small and with the exception of Ephesus (which you can easily see in a day), there's not a lot to do. When I was there, I wound up cutting my visit short by a day and heading back to Istanbul early by way of Izmir.

Cappadocia, on the other hand, is incredibly scenic and as historical as Ephesus. I spent 3 days there several years ago and could easily have stayed longer.
