Selcuk to Kas - via Pammukale or the coast?

We (my wife and I and our two teenagers) will be driving from Selcuk to Kas in July and are wondering whether Pammukale is worth the visit? Does it live up to the hype? What about Aphrodisia? Or should we take the scenic route down the coast?

We recently drove (three weeks ago) from Kas to Kusadasi - which is less than 20 km from Selcuk - via the coast road. Using the main road, the first part of the trip is not along the coast. However, once it gets to the coast, it is very, very pretty. In places there is very little development, may be a lone restaurant or home - but that is it. Eat at the Corner Cafe in Kas and enjoy the Manti. It is a real chill place with great music and good street scene.

Pammukale, I think, was spectacular but had so many hotels last time we were there that many of the natural pools had dried up because the hotels used too much water. Aphrodisias is one of the best Roman sites we've ever seen, including a stadium with all the seats still intact. Definitely worth a half-day. The coast is pretty too, but if you like Roman ruins don't miss Aphrodisias.
