Scuba diving on from Hydra Island- Peloponesse Greece

Is there good scuba diving off of Hydra Island just off the SE coast of Peloponesse Greece? I am thinking of heading there in the next few days, but might skip it and head to Skiathos if time permits.

penny, I don't recall any Scuba diving shops in Hydra, but apparently there is at least one. Have a look at Hydra Diving Centre website for more information. It's a beautiful location so I imagine the diving is incredible. Happy travels!

Not sure about scuba diving, but there is some good cliff diving/jumping in a cove not far from the harbor. Standing along the main harbor, with your back to the land, walk to your left along the harbor front and then walk up a small hill. There is a nice bar/restaurant up there, with amazing sunset views, and you can jump off the rocks into a little cove.

I've not done any scuba diving there, but my experience with snorkeling in the Aegean and Adriatic is that you see mostly sand, rocks and an occasional fish. Certainly not the beautiful coral and colorful fish you'll see in the Caribbean. If you do try it, please post your experiences here so others have a first-hand report from Hydra.

Penny, one's definition of "good scuba diving" is pretty dependent on what you're used to. Better than Hood River? I'd be pretty sure. Better than Raja Ampat? No way. As good as <insert your own reference>? Mmmm, probably not - if you have any experience at all in Caribbean/Indo-Pacific dive destinations. I'm a pretty experienced diver (and admittedly very spoiled by other places I've been). We were in Croatia recently and thought (briefly) about at least bringing snorkel gear. Glad we didn't. We did see a few dive shops in the area. Some of the coastal/island waters looked clear, and were a pretty blue. But the marine life looked very, very sparse - just sand, rocks and a few sea urchins. There's plenty of other great things to see and do around the Mediterranean, but for me, I'll save my scuba diving for other places.
