Sarajevo or Mostar hotel/sobe/apt recommendations?

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good places to stay in Sarajevo or Mostar? I have a handful of tips from some other friends but I thought I'd ask the community here. I don't know if there is anywhere in town that is particularly scenic but I'm down to stay about anywhere. Just looking for a good spot for a night or two in each town. Thanks in advance - I appreciate it!

Hi Michael,

My husband and I stayed at the Villa Fortuna in Mostar and absolutely loved it. The location was great (quick walk into the Old Town), the room was clean and comfortable, and the owners (Nela and Mili) are extremely hospitable. They also run a tourist agency and are very knowledgeable about the area. I can not recommend this place highly enough.

Good luck!

In July 09, Itraveled by bus from Dubrovnik to Mostar, 3 1/2 hours. A tourist agency a few doors down from the bus station recommended the Hotel Bristol, it was also in a guide book. 61 euros. I took a taxi to the hotel. I am single female traveling alone. It is a 4 star hotel. Scenic? Well, the view from my room was a bombed out building across the street. Bombed out buildings are everywhere. The Hotel Bristol is about 4 years old, sleek and modern. The staff was very helpful. It is an easy walk to old town. I had an excellent meal of trout at Labirint Restoran, down stairs & along the Neretva River. The merchants want Euros, but if you use the ATM, you receive marks. I entered several mosques. The Old Bridge has been retored. I walked thru Old Town, across the Bridge, and made a cirle/loop thru the Christian side and back to the hotel.

The next day I took the bus, 2 1/2 hours, to Sarajevo. I took a taxi to the Hotel Saray, 42 euros. Wonderful spread for breakfast in a garden like setting. It sits on a hill, but it is very easy to walk to Old Town & the city. The manager helped locate a guide & introduced me to a guy from Australia. We shared the cost of a guide for 2+ hours the next morning. After lunch we went on the Tunnel Tour that left from the tourist office. Excellent!
Hope this helps!

Did I read somewhere else that you were planning 5 days in Prague? Why? Two will be plenty or 3 at the most.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for all of the information from everyone - I really appreciate it and will keep an eye on the thread for any new info.

Ann, I know that 5 nights in Prague is "excessive" for some - I may cut it back a night but my fiancee and I lived in Prague for around a year (2003-2004) and it's like the vacation at the end of our vacation(honeymoon). We have several old friends we are meeting there to visit with and catch up. Plus, 5 days of smazak, goulash and dumplings and gambrinus/krusovice/urquel sounds like 5 days worth of fun to us! 16 days in bosnia/croatia is indeed brief, but in my mind Prague is and always be the crown jewel of Europe... we're looking forward to both parts of the trip equally... thanks!

Ciao!

I second Angela's recommendation of Villa Fortuna in Mostar. It was very nice, and price and location were good.
