try loizos apartments. www.loizos.gr, email them at [email protected]. lefteris is contact person. we were there july 2009. it is located in the fira area. close to a grocery store, shopping area, bus station. can see the caldera not from the apt but walking some steps to a terrace. has wifi in the main lobby. a small kitchen in the room. swimming pool. small tables outside the room that can be used for eating. check it out.

"Mid Range" means something different to everyone. Rooms go for anywhere from €25-1600/night, so technically mid range on Santorini is €800/night. Please state your maximum daily room budget in Euro and please tell us which village you want to stay in. If there are any particular amenities or services you require at your hotel please mention them as well. Without this basic information there is just too much to choose from.

Wow thanks for the quick responses. I think we want to stay in Thira...or close. I was thinking around 120 euro or less. Less is better. Sorry I'm new to the site and just starting my research. Kind regards, Joy

By mid-September there should be a lot to choose from in Fira for €120 or less, including a few properties with a view of the the amazing caldera. Check the websites for Caldera Butterfly Villas, Blue Dolphins Apartments, Villa Maria Damigou and Hotel Mylos. These all have the view. Many more hotels can be found here: http://www.santorini.com/hotels-in-santorini/fira-hotels1.htm You'll notice that some are in Firostefani, which is just an easy 15 minutes' stroll from Fira.

Joy, I was just in Santorini earlier this year and have a few suggestions. You might consider * www.nissosthira.gr/ *, as it's right in Fira and within easy walking distance to the main part of town. However, be sure to request a room at the BACK of the Hotel as the traffic noise (especially with those darn Quads) goes on well into the evening. Nissos Thira has a fantastic pool and free Wi-Fi which was a great benefit as I was travelling with a Netbook. Another place you might consider is * www.pensiongeorge.com/ * which is not far from Fira. The owner may pick you up from the Ferry or Airport with prior notice (cut & paste the weblinks inside the asterisks). One important tip to mention - DON'T drink the tap water as it's somewhat "unpalatable". Plan on buying bottled water (it's easily available). If you're planning on doing any shopping, bringing the Platinum card would be a good idea as some of the shops are fairly "high end". Another route you might consider is using one of the Greek Travel Agencies to arrange your lodgings. They will present you with a range of choices so you can pick something that fits your budget and taste, and they can also arrange all transportation and transfers. Have a look at * www.fantasy.gr/#nointro * for one example. You can get lots of other information on Santorini by checking Matt Barrett's * www.greecetravel.com * Happy travels!

For a less crowded version of Santorini, on the east side of the island, check out Kamari, close to the sea (as opposed to being 300 feet above the sea). We stayed for 3 nights at Aqua Vatos. Rates are a very reasonable 50 - 70 Euros/night including a fabulous breakfast. Lots of things to do on the Island...and you can still easily visit Fira and Oia. The best part of the east side of the island is that it is away from the cruise ships tours. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g658914-d608564-Reviews-Acqua_Vatos_Hotel-Kamari_Santorini_Cyclades.html
