Santorini, Greece-Warning About Caldera/Volcano Tour

Twice now in the last month or so it has been reported that passengers are being manipulated to go to one specific restaurant on Therassia when the boats stop for lunch, claiming that the restaurant recommended is the only "safe" one, or the cheapest, or some other reason is offered why the others should be avoided. This is a cheap ploy to get you to go to whichever restaurant is being recommended. DON'T fall for this sleazy trick. Pick the one you prefer, and if you hear a crew member telling another passenger that they will get sick if they don't go to the recommended restaurant, challenge that person and be sure that your fellow passengers know that they're being played.

Lee, Wow. Sounds like they're stooping to some really bad tactics. NO doubt there's a kickback in there somewhere. Sheesh.

It's actually fairly common, nothing new. In this case it's probably a relative's restaurant. Think tour guides taking you to certain shops for "the best deal".

It was brought to my attention so I thought I'd pass the warning on.

Lee,

Thanks for the warning! Thankfully I didn't experience any problems when I was on Santorini recently.

Cheers!

The best way to do Santorini is on your own. It's such a beautiful place and the restaurants offer great food at reasonable prices even when extremely crowded. What views!
