Santorini Greece

What would be the best time of year to visit Greece, and possibly off season prices?

My wife and I travelled from Scandinavia to Greece in late Sept. Greece, including Santorini, was pleasantly warm then. Check out weather.com. Search the city and look at the averages section that provides weather trends throughout the year.

During the off-season, many islands in Greece totally shut down for the winter, starting in mid-October or so. So, depending upon where you're thinking of going, check first as to when hotels and tourist sites will be open.

It depends on what you're going for -- May-June and early Sept in my opinion are the prime times.

MAY PLUSSES- Rains are just over, so more greenery. Things are open, but no crowds, prices lower & people are relaxed/welcoming. MINUSSES - Ferry skeds are skimpy. Seas are brisk! for swimming until late may.

SEPT PLUSSES - Crowds are gone, water is sublime. MINUSSES - after 3 rainless months, some places are brown & sere; after high-season mob scene, Greek hoteliers etc sometimes "burnt-out," gettng ready to close. High-season prices often don't drop til 9/15.

BEST of ALL -- Late May thru June; price up a bit June 1, but ferries, water, greenery, crowds (lack of) and Greek welcome -- are all optimal.

We were in Santorini at the end of October, crowds were gone, prices of accommodation about half of full season. It was still sunshiny, mornings were little cold. Sea was already colder, too, but still swimmable. If you really want low prices and no crowds that's the time to go. Otherwise for warmer weather one month earlier.
