santorini boat tour

we have a cruise day in santorini and have been there once before so were thinking of taking a boat tour up to Oia - and wondered if this is a reasonable option

There's now a water taxi from the tender dock straight to Amoudi Bay below Oia that includes a shuttle bus up the cliff into the village. That's as close to a "boat tour" as you're going to find unless you want to take the excursion boat that stops at the volcano and hotsprings, Therassia island and Amoudi Bay. That excursion also begins on the tender dock so you can see what's available in your time frame once you're ashore. Be advised that the water taxi only departs when it's fully booked.

I'm not sure if you are up for a hike, but something else that is amazing to do is to take the walk/hike from Fira to Oia. You will first walk through the villages of Firostefani and Imerovigli and than you'll be walking along the edge looking out over the caldera. The views are breathtaking - it really is a spectacular walk! At one point you are on the road, but only for a short distance. We did this in July on a hot day and just as we were starting to fade, we came over the hill and there was Oia in the distance - the view was incredible! We arrived in Oia for a well deserved lunch. After looking around the town, we walked down to Amoudi Bay and had a frappe and baklava sitting at a waterside table with the colorful fishing boats bobbing in the clear blue sea. If you have time you can swim off the rocks around the bend from the Tavernas. At the end, take the bus back to Fira - a spectacular day!

If you are not up for walking to Oia, you can take the frequent city bus.
That is what I did then walked down the path to the beach for lunch and a dip in the sea. There are also taxis going around Oia to take you down to the sea and back to the top to the bus station.
