I am looking at staying in Santorini for about 8 nights. I do not know the villages well and am trying to decide where to stay. We want to stay someplace with a pool with fairly easy access to a beach. We like to be near villages.

Stunning views, swimming pool, nice room. However it does not have easy access to the beach. Beaches are on the other site of the island, relatively far from the villages. The apartments are in Firostefani. It's between Fira and Oia. It's easy walking distance to Fira or you can take bus. You also can take bus to Oia and even to the beaches.

If you want to stay at the beach focus your search on Kamari and Perissa. If you want to stay in a hotel overlooking the caldera but with easy access to a bus for the beaches stay in Fira or Firostefani. Start your search here: http://www.santorini.com/hotels

Shawn, I stayed in Fira (about the middle of the island) and felt that was a very convenient location. It was easy to walk to a variety of restaurants and shops, so no transportation was required. However, it wasn't too close to beaches, so a rental car was needed. I visited several of the beaches, and there didn't seem to be any Hotels at most of them, except a few at the south end of the island. I stayed at This Hotel which had a great swimming pool. You'll need to consider drinking only bottled water on the island, as the tap water is dreadful (at least IMHO). Bottled water is readily available. Happy travels!
