RV camping in Eastern Europe with kids

We are planning a 4-week loop through Munich, Prague, Budapest, Croatia, Slovenia, Salzburg, and back to Munch. We've booked a family RV and our boys are ages 6 and 7. We are interested in must-see places for kids, favorite camp sites or freecamping ideas, places to avoid, etc. We are looking for adventure and very much into the "back door" approach. At the same time, we know we'll be miserable if the kids are miserable, and so we are choosing city/museum experiences carefully and planning to spend more time at lakes/beaches. We have not found a lot of practical advice for families in RVs, and would appreciate suggestions.

A question. You're not planning to take the RV into cities, are you? If so... that simply isn't practical.

No, we aren't planning to drive through the middle of cities. However, we have found many campings on the outskirts of cities with public transportation to the city center nearby. Some cities, like Munich, have municipal campgrounds.

Thanks for your posts. I really enjoyed the Gormans' blog. I have David and Patty's book, and actually booked my RV through them. I just figured that I had already peppered them with enough questions, so I posted here. I also have Cynthia Harriman's Take Your Kids to Europe. I would really like to hear about personal experiences either (1)traveling with kids in Eastern Europe, or (2) camping with an RV.
