Russian River cruise

We were looking at Russian River cruise ships like MS Russ, MS Lenen, or MS Tolstoi. Has anyone been on any of these boats? What did you think? What did you have for dinner? The sample menus that I have seen do not look good.

I took a 14-day cruise on the waterways of Russia in 1995, only a few years after westerners were first allowed to see that part of the country. It was a fascinating trip! At that time some of the boats were more comfortable than others with the ones catering to Russians being very plain. The meals were fine, but don't expect them to be what you would have in the US--part of experiencing Russia is eating their food. I'd recommend researching the boats to be sure you get one that caters to western Europeans, including English speakers, so the announcements will be spoken in English (and English not last on the list so everyone else is talking and you can't hear the English announcement). It was one of the most interesting trips I've ever taken, so I highly recommend it. It's the only way to see some villages and small cities that most tourists never see because they only visit Moscow and St. Petersburg.
