For any of you that have taken this tour, how did you choose to make your way back home? It looks like the flights out of Ljubljana are such you need to fly elsewhere and stay a night before heading home. I'm in Oregon and have limited direct Europe flights (Amsterdam only) but on the way home don't much care how long it takes. I'm scoping it out, ideas welcome, thanks!
Hi CL I did this tour two years ago. I found the same as you, that I needed to spend a night somewhere. I ended up with LJU to Paris to Ams and spent the night in Amsterdam and then flew to Seattle in the morning. My friends flew back to Prague and spent the night there and then flew back the next day. Our guide arranged taxis for everyone to the airport matching up people leaving around the same time. It's a great tour. Leslie
Last time I was In Europe, I had nearly a 24 hour layover in Paris. What a treatI booked an airport hotel, took the train into Paris, walked around for a couple of hours, had a lovely dinner, trained back to my hotel for a glass of champagne and to bed, and next morning, flew back to Seattle. To be honest, the same kind of itinerary would work with Amsterdam, too. But Paris, ooh la la...
After my Best of Eastern Europe tour, I took an early morning Adria Airways flight to Frankfurt where I connected to a late morning flight back to the U.S. Adria Airways does have a 6:50 flight to Amsterdam via Munich that arrives at 10:35, which would give you plenty of time to make the 1:25 direct flight to Portland. There were several people on my tour with early flights, so our RS guide arranged a shared van to take us from the hotel in Bled to the Ljubljana airport. Don't remember the exact cost for the van, but it was reasonable.
I'm signed up for a September Eastern Europe. We are planning to stay until Saturday (tour ends on Tuesday). Any suggestions? We've already done the fabulous Adriatic Tour so we've been to Split and Dubrovnik which are great.
Any suggestions about how to wrap up what sounds like a great tour are appreciated.
We did this tour last year and took the train to Salzburg for 2 nights followed by 3 nights in Munich. We flew out of Munich. We like using the Munich airport.
Thanks everyone - great suggestions!
