My family of 4 plan to take a Baltic cruise next summer that starts in Copenhagen. Before the cruise, We'd like to visit Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia and then travel our way up to Copenhagen. From the map, Prague, Budapest, and Berlin are along the way from Croatia to Copenhagen. We will have about 2 weeks for the road trip. Any suggestion on where to visit in these two weeks and how to get to a place close to the park from the US? We plan to fly to Europe with the AA award so the entry can be anywhere close to the park. Thank you very much for your reply in advance.
Your best bet for starting at Plitvice would be to fly into Zagreb, Croatia. However, I do not believe AA flies there themselves. A very quick internet search indicates that Iberia flies to Zagreb from Madrid seasonally, as does Malev Hungarian Airlines from Budapest. Both airlines are partners with AA (but I have not gone to the individual airline websites to confirm these travel routes).
If you call AA and find they cannot get you to Zagreb for any reason, then look into flying to one of the European cities they WILL get you to (such as Frankfurt) and purchasing a one-way ticket from there to Zagreb.
I don't know much about the park in Croatia your talking about I didn't make it there. But I'd suggest Lake Bled, in Slovenia, and maybe Lijubiana. Also Vienna, Berlin, and Prague would be must sees in my opinion.
