I am in the preliminary stage of planning a trip to Europe for late July/early August. We're considering Slovenia since we've never been there. I've found a really cheap flight to Rome and was wondering if anyone knows the best way to get from Rome to Ljubljana. Any travel suggestions would also be welcome. Thanks!
Hi James! If you can afford it, then flying is the quickest way but usually very expensive (unless you can find a "special") from Rome to Trieste then take a bus over the border. Alternatively take a plane to Venice and then there are companies like GoOpti.com and DRD.si that can take you to Ljubljana. There is also a bus from Florence to Ljubljana on Florentina Buses. http://www.florentiabus.it/firenze-sofia.asp Otherwise, take a train from Rome all the way to the border at Gorizia or Trieste and cross there. You will love Slovenia, there's loads to see and do. Check the main website at http://www.slovenia.info and the independent site
at http://www.sloveniaforyou.com Ljubljana, Bled, Bohinj, Postojna Caves are just some of the must see highlights! Greg and Rona
You could also drive. If you have more than 2, driving can be reasonably cheap. We drove all around Austria, Croatia, Slovakia, and Hungary last summer. NO PROBLEM! NO PROBLEM! as our Hungarian host would say. Superhighways exist in a lot of places, you can take side-trips easily, and many gas stations have english speakers. Also many do not, but they are used to tourists.
Thanks so much for the suggestions and very helpful websites!
