Romania or Ukraine?

My husband and I are tossing around the idea of doing a Eastern Europe trip later this year. On our list of possible places to see are: Prague, Warsaw, Krakow, Budapest and possibly either Lviv, Ukraine or possibly Odessa or someplace in Romania. My question is, has anybody been to both? What are the pros and cons of each? Generally when we travel we like to experience the culture, food and the landscapes of the region we are in, just to give you an idea of what our main criteria for where we like to travel.

I loved Lviv - great choice - and I found it more interesting than Odessa. Of course, I loved Romania too. You don't say how many days - Lviv takes a lot less time than Romania, which could easily occupy two or three weeks. You might find my trip including Ukraine and Romania useful - http://wilhelmswords.com/eur2006/index.html

Kathy, thanks for your feedback, I'll definietly be checking out the link to your trip as well. We are thinking about 14-16 days total for the trip and with those time restraints, I guess it would make more sense to see Lviv, instead of trying to see more of Romania. I just wanted to ask, because I'm more interested in seeing Romania and my husband is more interested in seeing the Ukraine. Looks like he might just win on this one. :)

Given your available time, I too would say Lviv. I'm presuming that you will travel overland from either Warsaw or Krakow. One thing I found is that the language barrier is far greater in the Ukraine than in Romania (my opinion).
