Going with a group of photographers to Romania & Bulgaria and need some 'not to miss' suggestions (especially for Bulgaria) I have been to Romania and know what I loved but would like to hear from other travelers as well. Have not been to Bulgaria so especially interested in suggestions for that country. It looks amazing.
I'm jealous. Bulgaria was one of our most memorable trips. I am no fancy photographer but here: http://budapestflat.shutterfly.com/bulgaria (and look for tab BU2 and BU3 at the top for more). Maybe you can see some good photography potential from the snap shots. Enjoy Bulgaria!!!
James... thanks... I am a professional photographer and have to say you really do have a lot of nice images, so while you say you are no 'fancy photographer' you do have a good eye and I enjoyed seeing them. As soon as I have the itinerary we are going to start with may I send it to you so you can let me know if some revisions might be in order? We don't have too much freedom as we are having a company handle all the logistics for us (too much for me to worry about with a group) but I think we can tweek it a bit to accomodate the fact that it is a photography tour. Thanks again...
Thanks. I thought seeing the places might give you more clues than me trying to describe them. Bulgaria is both exotic and very familiar. Very good people too. One of those places I know we will return to. You chose well.
obviously you won't miss rila, and the drive to rila is actually pretty nice. with the mountain view and little villages, passing old farm houses and waterfall, it's well worth to get a private driver. we also drove to this very little temple after rila. a little bit of hike and it was raining hard, but i suppose it can be very beautiful on a sunny day. you should also over night in plovdiv. the old city on the hill is very cool to explore, many little side streets with mixed architecture style. there is a little roman theater as well, smaller than many you find in greece or turkey, but pretty impressive. i also visited tornovo, the castle ruin on the hill is very nice.
Plovdiv, one of my favorite towns in the world
We especially enjoyed the northern part of Romania. Maramures (NW) is very traditional area (mostly rural with small villages). I'm sure there's lots of great photo ops there! We also found Bucovina (NE) interesting with the painted monasteries.
