My husband and I will be in Romania for 5-6 days this Oct. I found a tour for 5 days with Exclusive Romania. Has anyone heard of the company? We are independent travelers and could do a driving trip but I am worried there is not enough time. I know we will get lost and frustrated in the cities. Any suggestions would be helpful.
5-6 days, is like you said, not much time. I would weigh the cost of a tour versus on your own. If it were me, I would fly into Bucharest, stay a day, then take a train to Brasov and stay there the remaining time. There are some nice day trips from Brasov too, so I don't think that you would get bored. Also, this way you are not fiddling with a car, but could still rent one for a day to go into the country from Brasov, which is much easier to drive around than Bucharest.
Thanks I will look into that option. I was thinking of the train but could not find anything on trains in Romania. I will search further. We plan to spend a day or 2 in Bucharest.
5-6 days can do transylvania with bucharest. agree bucharest needs just 1 day, and you should check out the old town area like 10 or 11pm on friday or sat, it's totally jammed with cafes and bars, very cool. from bucharest you should stay in brasvo for 2 to 3 nights, so you can day trip to Sinaia, bran castle/rosnov etc. You should also go to sighisora and sibiu, both are interesting cities. Driving would be great, but train ride can get you there in 2-3 hrs, not that far. You won't get lost in these cities - bucharest is the only big one and all other places are pretty small. It's totally doable on your own, I didn't join any tour group and it works fine for me.
Driving around Romania is really easy. Just get the car in Bucharest and head out, or drive around the city...just like any other city. Driving around Transylvania and Brasov is fun and beautiful. Lots of little villages and towns that are of interest. Beautiful place...I loved it and the food and people were great.
Thanks. We are considering renting a car. I have heard what a beautiful and unspoiled place romania is. I wish we had more time. We want to make the most of our time there. That's why we are considering is a private tour with an English speaking driver visiting the highlights.
