Risk of Travel to Greece

My fiance' and I want to travel to Greece for our honeymoon in September (specifically to the Cyclades). However, we're concerned about the impact of austerity measures and now the change in Government which could result in Greece defaulting on their loans and expulsion from the EU. What are the current thoughts on this? Are there any critical events between now and September which could stand to create complete chaos in the country? I understand they'll still want tourism, but if the currency is defunct, banks close, etc. it might not be a fun vacation.

We are going to Greece in September for four weeks. We have our flights, hotels, and rental car. We're hoping that normal life goes on regardless of the economy. Of course, that doesn't help you make your decision, but I'm guessing that we're not the only ones going to Greece.

athens may see some disruption but else where i think you'll be perfectly ok, esp. on the islands. none of the financial fallout will have any significant impact on tourism.

I am not too concerned. We were there this past September....things weren't economically good with Greece then either ....and we really didn't sense it on the islands. We were on Naxos, Santorini, Mykonos. We were watching TV of some chaos in Athens but if we didn't KNOW of the crisis in Greece, we never would have known based on our daily experiences while traveling around the islands. If that makes sense?? We are returning this September too. Maybe it's naive, but we haven't given much of a second thought to the "what if's" and assume it will be just as lovely trip as the last one. I hope you keep your plans and make the trip because Greece is WONDERFUL!

We'll be there in September, as we were last September and at Christmas, and aren't too worried. Strikes are a potential problem but there is generally a few days warning. We will probably get back to Athens a couple of days before our flight home in case of any disruption to ferries. People might find this interesting. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18018635 Alan
