Rhodes vs Crete

Can anyone summarize what the main difference is in a trip to Crete vs Rhodes? I have heard people rave about Rhodes but others like Crete.
I am likely traveling to other islands first (Mykonos, Paros, Santorini).

Rhodes you can see in 4 days....Crete you need at least a week....Rhodes is much more expensive & more crowded with tourists than Crete - locals seem to treat visitors better in Crete than Rhodes....ferry from Santorini to Crete 2 hrs....ferry from Santorini to Rhodes 6 hrs. It's all a matter of taste. My high end friends like Rhodes, but I love Crete. You are better off looking at both and deciding for yourself.

both are really good places if you have time you should try seeing both. rhodes has the knights palace and old town is magical; lindos is also a great site, hike up to the ruin then down to the beach for a swim is lovely. crete is bigger, you need a car and a week to see it properly, but if you just want to sample chania old town + iraklio + knosos it's a pretty trip as well.

I've never been to Rhodes but I can tell you that Crete is huge and it will take a minimum of a week with a rental car just to barely scratch the surface. Because Rhodes is also very large it presents its own logistical challenges that would best be met with a rental car. Both islands can be reached by ferry from Santorini.

I've not been to Crete but wasn't crazy about Rhodes. I loved our hotel in Old Town and enjoyed visiting the Knights Quarter, but two nights in Rhodes would be plenty for me. Admittedly, I much prefer the quieter, less-touristed islands. If you are planning to visit Mykonos, Paros and Santorini, I would recommend looking at some of the lesser-known islands in the Cyclades for your 4th stop (i.e. Milos, Sifnos, Folegandros), to give you a change of pace and simplify your transportation between islands.
