One boat trip visits Rhodes, Santorini, and Bodrum. The other visits Mykonos, Patmos, and Kusadasi/Ephesis. I'm choosing between the two. Any advice from those who have been to these areas?
WE have been to all the places except Patmos.
We love seeing the ruins and Ephesis is one of
the best in the world. We liked all of the islands.
From what I've read (haven't actually been there), Rhodes and Bodrum are somewhat "party" destinations. We're planning a Turkey trip and are definitely looking forward to Ephesis.
Rhodes is a party town if you visited the mega resorts outside of the old city but if you're on a boat trip, you'll probably be visiting the old city. The old city is a walled crusader city with a castle, basilica ruins, and beautiful medieval streets. Santorini has a famed caldera view and Greek streets and in Fira, a few museums and busses to ancient sites. Bodrum has the Internationally renowned Underwater Archeological musuem but is generally, especially in summer's high season, a non-stop party and having been to the museum ten days ago, I have to say it was much less impressive than I thought it would be.
Myknonos is a beautiful little Greek city with labyrinth streets and famous windmills and pelicans and easy day trips to visit ancient Delos, a sacred island of ancient Greece. Patmos, I've never visited. Ephesus is one of the more impressive archeological sites in Turkey, so impressive that it may be worth it all by itself. However, with either trip you'll see great stuff.
