Merle Go too far upscale and you'll miss the Greek experience! Most Athens tavernas tend towards the casual and the food concentrates on good local ingredients. Having said that there is a very good range of reviews at Dine Out in Athens http://dineoutathensbydianekochilas.blogspot.com/ Hopefully you'll find something you fancy there. Have a good trip. Alan

Rather than endlessly keyboard here, I refer you to a Greece forum that has much more info, because many participants are frequent visitors to Athens or Greeks who actually live & work there -- Trip Advisor Greece forum. On the opening page there is a Menu "Jump to a more Specific Forum" Use the menu & select ATHENS. Then in the "search" slot just put "Athens restaurants and Tavernas" and you'll find a trove. OR the short way -- find the TA contributor "Gas" and click on his name; you'll get a list of all his contributions, and just click on the restaurant ones. He has the BEST restaurant tips, and he's choosy... 2 he likes a lot are Kuzina and Ta Kioupia. (I know him and YES he's just as good-looking as his photo! Recent U grad, did his mandatory military, & was chosen as a Evzone for the Changing-of-Guard thing because he looks like a Greek God).
