Renting rooms for 5 days in Vienna Budapest Ljubljana

Have you read any guide books yet to get a feeling for the costs you may encounter and what to use for a basis when it comes time commit to a rental?

We have started to do that. We are basically planning on 3-4 day stays in each city to avoid the "if this is Tuesday, this must be Buda-Pest" thing. Most of these private rooms seem to require 3-4 minima.

5 days iin Ljubljana? it might be too much time, you probably want to spend some overnights at Lake Bled or Piran, or both.

We may stay 5 nights somewhere in that region, but the idea is to set up a base, and take day trips from there.

I'd agree that 5 nights in Lublijana is too many - we like to spend several nights in one place, too - Lake Bled is a better option - a lot of different little day trips and it would be too short a time as a day trip from the city. But I would try to do one day/night in the city (it's wonderful to wander along the river at night - little cafes/bars with riverside tables. We stayed at the "jail" hostel (I think it's in RS book), which was great fun - mid-week - I think there's a lot of night life in the area on weekends (we were in our 50s, so not into nightclubs). 4 or 5 nights in Vienna and Budapest will be good.
