I want to travel from Delphi to Meteora and beforhand around the Pelopennes area...where would be a good place to rent a car outside of Athens near any of those areas? How much should I expect to pay for a week car rental?
You could start by going to autoeurope.com, which will show you the available pickup locations around Greece as well as their prices. Prices will vary according to the type of car you choose, pickup & dropoff locations, the insurance options you choose, etc. There are other similar car rental brokers you might check such as kemwel.com or gemut.com.
It's best not to attempt to drive in the city itself, so you can get a car out at the airport and drive around the city on the National Highway en route to your destinations. Be sure to go to your local AAA office to pick up an International Driving Permit, no test or membership required. Check the car out very well for scratches, dents, cracks, stains and missing parts. Take photos. List everything you find on the rental agreement. Do not take "No problem" as a substitute for making that list. Take the most comprehensive insurance you can get from the rental agency.
The airport is a good place to rent as you avoid any center city driving in Athens. Or check online for other sites but few tourist areas you mention will have rental facilities and you'd have to get there from Athens anyway. You MUST have an IDP just to rent a car in Greece. No IDP - no car. Passing on rural roads is down the middle so always stay near the right (it feels like you're driving on the shoulder).
I rented a car for early April at this agency: http://www.greektravel.com/swift/ Got a great rate and GPS for a low daily addition. They are meeting me at the airport with the SUV so I don't have to drive in Athens.

John, be sure your GPS doesn't route you through Central Athens if it's your plan to avoid the city. I've read how this sometimes happens.
I had a very good experience with Swift.
Thanks...is it easy to find free parking when you travel? I want to do Delphi, Meteora, and then Nafplio and Olympia and maybe some other areas...
We were in Delphi and Napflio in September. There was no problem finding free parking in Delphi. Napflio was a little more complicated, because our B&B was in the old quarter. However, other than our arrival, when we wanted to be at the doorstep to bring in our bags, parking was also quite easy. There is a huge amount of parking right at the harbor. The town is small, so you can walk to most of what you want to see from there. If you drive up to the Palamidi Fortress, there is also parking at that site.
