we are planning to rent a car in vienna, drive to slovenia and stay there for a couple of days, then drop the car in villach. does anybody know or recommend a good rental car agency that does not charge extra for travelling to eastern europe ? is there a way to avoid this fee ? we are thinking of using autoeurope for now. thanks !
Of all things - we actually found a great rate for the almost exact same trip from Hertz - dropping off the car in Kalgenfurt near Villach (Don't think they have a Villach location).
Normally for Europe, I don't even bother with the big US companies.
We got a rate of around 70EUR per day, midsize, NO one-way drop off fees inside Austria, and the Eastern European driving fee was 50% more for the insurance. <- SO if you have credit card insurance, might be a good deal. Only 6EUR for unlimited extra drivers.
In comparisons AutoEruope,EuropbyCar, etc was more 50-60EUR for extra driver, large drop off fees, and 60EUR Eastern Europe fees.
Kinda surprised me when Hertz had the much better deal. FYI - Rates were for mid may.
