Rab island, Croatia

Any tips/hints/suggestions for Rab? Not much info in RS book or others I've checked out. I'll be there in early June on a RS tour and will have an entire free day. Thanks!

CL, The Guide will provide lots of information on the options prior to arrival on the island. If you want the information before the tour, you might send a note to the RS tour department. I find that I usually spend part of "free days" taking care of laundry or other "housekeeping chores". Happy travels!

It's a beautiful island with a relaxing atmosphere. Have some gelato. Stroll about town. Repeat. Rent a bike or scooter. Happy hour gelato? Dinner. Another stroll.

The island is not that big and resembles a triangle with the point being the southernmost tip. There are several north/south streets and a half dozen east/west connecting streets. There is a park at the northern end, the marina along the west coast, the southern tip is a botanical garden and the east coast has a walkway and access to the water, can't really call them beaches. The water has sea urchins so if you plan to go in bring (or buy there) a pair of water shoes. There are a handful of old churches, some may be open for visits and/or climbing the bell tower. There are dozens of small restaurants, in the old town and along the water. By the way the RS book on Croatia and Slovenia (3d edition) has a short chapter on Rab.

CL, Will you be there as a stop on the Best of Eastern Europe tour? I was there on the same tour. I think I went for a long hike, ate gelato, drank wine, ate seafood, more wine, evening gelato....Oh and I got a nice massage at the Hotel Spa. There are some interesting churches and scenary in Rab but no 'blockbuster' sights. I think that's the idea a vacation from the vacation. And a good chance to drink with the locals! Ross in Denver
